On Monday, November 25, Team India registered a dominating 295-run lead over Australia in the first Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series down under. After being restricted to 150 in the first innings, the Men in Blue came back stronger to restrict the hosts to 104, courtesy a five-wicket haul from stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah.
Afterwards, the Men in Blue posted 534-run target for the hosts in the second innings, but continuous fall of wickets led to Australia’s collapse, with India resgistering a commanding win to go 1-0 up in the series. After the completion of the first Test, several reports have revealed that Head Coach Gautam Gambhir will return to India, meanwhile the team will fly out to Canberra.
Gautam Gambhir to leave for India due to “personal reasons”
According to a report in The Indian Express, the Team India Head Coach has reportedly spoken to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his travel plans and will leave the team after their dominating win in Perth. “Gambhir has informed us that he will be travelling back home and will join the team before the start of the second Test. He has cited personal reasons and the BCCI has accepted his request,” the paper quoted a source.
Although Gambhir’s return is not known yet, but he is likely to reunite with the team ahead of the second Test, which is set to be played from December 6 onwards at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. Additionally, the Rohit Sharma-led Team India is set tot travel to Canberra on Wednesday to play two-day pink-ball tour game.
The practice match where India will face off against the Prime Minister XI, is scheduled to start on Saturday, November 30 at the Manuka Oval.
