The Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s already grieving IPL 2024 campaign takes another step back as their middle-order mainstay Glenn Maxwell will reportedly miss out from action in their next match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad owing to a rigorous thumb injury. The Australian all-rounder suffered a vicious injury on his right thumb while fielding last night against Mumbai Indians.
Maxwell has endured a horrific season till now as the two-time World Cup-winning player has managed to score just 32 runs in six innings with three ducks to his name. On Thursday against Mumbai Indians, the 35-year-old registered his third duck and also accounted for two dropped catches while on the field.
It was during his second catch attempt of Suryakumar Yadav when Maxwell got hit by a speeding ball racing toward him. As the destructive all-rounder attempted to put his hands before the ball, it got bruised off his thumb and the Victoria batter immediately rushed off the ground to have a check-up of his thumb. According to News 24, Maxwell could miss RCB's next IPL 2024 clash against SRH.
RCB suffer fifth straight defeat this season against MI
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru slumped to their fifth straight loss in the ongoing season of the IPL as Mumbai Indians brutally humbled the Faf Du Plessis-led side by seven wickets. The Bengaluru-based franchise’s bowling unit once again came on the light of criticism as they conceded 199 in just 15.3 overs to end the proceedings.
Riding on Jasprit Bumrah’s astonishing spell of 5/21, the home time restricted the power-packed Bengaluru batting arsenal to 196 on a belter of pitch. For the visitors, skipper Plessis, Rajat Patidar, and Dinesh Karthik scored unfamiliar half-centuries for the maiden time this season.
