Indian skipper Rohit Sharma shared an emotional message for spinning wizard Ravichandran Ashwin who announced his retirement from international cricket. As the third Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 ended in a draw on Wednesday, December 12, Ashwin made his announcement to retire mid-series. The announcement, which came as a surprise to most of his teammates as well, left cricket fans and pundits emotional across the nation. 

It is to be noted that Ashwin was a part of the playing XI for the second Test of the five-match series in Adelaide. After a rain-hit third Test, Ashwin decided to call time on his legendary decade-long career in India colours. As the 38-year-old cricketer made the announcement in the post-match press conference, wishes started to pour in for the spinning magician. Several fans as well as Ashwin’s former teammates took to social media to share their messages for the cricketer and wished him the best for his new phase.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma shared his message for the retiring bowler by posting a picture from the dressing room on social media. Sharma accompanied the picture with the caption, "We’ve played together for so many years and created so many memories which I’ll cherish forever. You’ve been a match winner since match 1 & left a lasting impression on all the young bowlers coming through the ranks. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of upcoming young bowlers with the classic Ashwin action.” 

He added, “You are a true OG & legend of Indian Cricket & World Cricket and this team will miss having you. Wishing the best to you & your lovely family for what lies ahead.” Notably, Ashwin finished his career as the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Tests with 537 wickets in 106 games, sitting only behind Indian legend Anil Kumble.
