Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix has angered the fans of his club after he expressed his desire to join Barcelona in the future. The Portuguese forward, who joined Atletico from Benfica in 2019 for a club-record fee of €126 million, has not lived up to the expectations and has often been criticized by coach Diego Simeone for his lack of consistency and work rate.
Felix’s stint with Chelsea was also largely unsuccessful as he scored four goals in 20 matches for the Blues. In an interview with Fabrizio Romano, Felix revealed that he has always dreamed of playing for Barcelona and that he would love to move to Camp Nou if the opportunity arises.
"Barcelona has always been my first choice and I would love to join them," he said. "It was always my dream since I was a kid. If it happens, it will be a dream come true for me."
Felix's comments did not go down well with the Atletico fans, who felt betrayed by his lack of loyalty and respect for the club which made him one of the most expensive players in the world. A scratched plate with obscenities and the unmistakable message "Go to Barça." Of course, following those statements, it appears that his relationship with his supporters is irreparable.
Atletico Madrid also reacted negatively to Felix's statements, considering them "unprofessional and disrespectful" towards the club and the fans. According to ESPN, Barca were offered Félix in recent weeks, but because of the club's delicate financial situation, they would only be able to sign him on loan. According to some other reports, Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in Barcelona duo Franck Kessie and Ferran Torres and could try to get a swap deal with Barcelona.
It remains to be seen whether Felix will be able to win back the trust and support of the Atletico fans and whether Barcelona will make a move for him in the future. For now, he will have to prove his worth on the field and help Atletico defend their La Liga title and challenge for the Champions League trophy.
