England fast bowler Jofra Archer has set his eyes on the 2025-2026 Ashes series to make his comeback to the Test cricket. Archer, 29, has been absent from the longest format since last three years due to his continuous struggle with back and elbow injuries. The Englishman last played a Test for his side in February 2021, and since then, it has been a constant struggle for him, owing to his numerous injuries.
In the 2019 Ashes, Archer delivered an impressive performance and scalped 22 wickets at an average of 20.07. Now that the cricketer has been fully involved in his side’s latest campaigns, including the T20 World Cup 2024, it could be said that he might make a comeback to the Tests soon. Recently, Archer spoke to BBC Sport and said, “I am going to use the rest of this year to make sure that (playing in the next Ashes) is at least a possibility.”
He continued, “I’m tired of going on Instagram and seeing posts saying ‘he’s going to be on the physio’s bed in the next two weeks’ and stuff like that. I want to spend the rest of the year proving some people wrong and hopefully play in another Ashes. I will manage myself as best as possible and get myself (through) until at least maybe, the start of the Championship next year. I’ll probably play a few of those (games) and keep building up and getting that workload ready for Test cricket.”
Notably, Archer made his debut in The Hundred for Southern Brave, in the game against London Spirit at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday, July 24. He dismissed Andre Russell to record his first The Hundred wicket.
