After missing out on the first 25 games in the 2023-24 NBA regular season due to suspension, the Memphis Grizzlies star, Ja Morant is set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a season-ending injury on his right shoulder. The NBA franchise announced on Monday that the 24-year-old guard will undergo a season-ending surgery after suffering a subluxation of his right shoulder.
The Memphis Grizzlies released a statement on X about Ja Morant's season-ending injury that he suffered during a training session on Saturday. Morant will undergo surgery, which will force him to miss the remaining season, after suffering a labrum tear in his right shoulder.
The Grizzlies stated, " Following ongoing soreness and instability, Morant underwent an MRI that revealed an underlying labral tear. Morant will undergo season-ending surgery and is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2024-25 season."
Injury woes for Memphis Grizzlies
Morant missed the first 25 games this season due to a suspension for displaying a gun during an Instagram Live video, which is damaging conduct to the league. Following his suspension, Morant played nine games before suffering a season-ending injury as the Grizzlies went 6-3. Without Morant, the Grizzlies won just seven of their 27 games this season. In his nine games this season, Morant averaged 25.1 points and 8.1 assists.
Apart from the two-time NBA All-Star, Grizzlies center Steven Adams has been sidelined since January 2023 due to a right knee injury and will miss the entire season after undergoing surgery during the preseason. On the other hand, a news update from Damichael Cole suggested that the 2010-11 NBA MVP, Derrick Rose, will be out "week-to-week" after getting injured on Friday, December 15, 2023, with left hamstring tightness.
