
Indian athlete and prolific runner Gulveer Singh notched up his third record in the 10,000m track, surpassing his own previous record of 27:14.88 minutes. He finished the race in sixth position at San Juan Capistrano track in JSerra Catholic High School. He finished the race in 27:00.22 minutes.
With this, Gulveer Singh also notched the all-time third best timing in Asia after finishing sixth at The Ten meet in USA. However, the race was won by Kenya’s Ishmael Kipkurui, who won the gold medal by finishing the race in 26:50.20 seconds.
Who is Gulveer Singh?
36-year-old Gulveer Singh is also a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army. He set the Asian record for 5000m with a 12:58.77 at Boston University. With this, Gulveer became the first Asian athlete to finish 5000m track race under 13 minutes. His previous record in the 10000m race was 27:14.88, set at Hachioji Long Distance in Japan in 2024.
Gulveer Singh also won the bronze medal at the Asian Games in 2022 and also holds the national feats in 5000m, 10000m outdoors, along with over 3000m and 5000m indoors. However, he went on to miss the qualification for the World Championship by 0.22 seconds. He is in the line to qualify for the Asian Championships under 29:33.26.
