Guwahati, the largest city of the Indian state of Assam, is set to host its first-ever Test match in men’s cricket and ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup matches in 2025. Following the conclusion of the apex council meeting, BCCI General Secretary Devajit Saikia announced that the city will get its chance to welcome some of the best men’s and women’s cricketers in the world at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium, also known as Barsapara Cricket Stadium later this year.
Notably, as per the report from the Times of India, Guwahati is expected to host the second Test of the two-match series involving the Indian and South African men’s cricket teams from November 22 onwards. With that, the ACA Stadium will become the first venue from the North Eastern part of India to have a Test match on their shores in the Indian cricket history.

Devajit Saikia was quoted as saying about the matter, “No Test and World Cup matches have been played in Guwahati so far. But, as per the decision taken at the BCCI apex council meeting on Saturday, Guwahati will host both those matches this year.” Apart from the men’s Test match, ACA Stadium is set to host five to six matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, a tournament which will be played in India from September 24 to November 2.
“The Women's World Cup will be held from September 24 to November 2. The schedule is still being finalised. Guwahati has been selected as one of the venues for it,” the BCCI Secretary further said. Such an increase in stocks of Guwahati as an international cricket venue has happened because of the support received by the ACA from the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the ICC Chairman, Jay Shah.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are set to play two home matches of their IPL 2025 campaign at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati later this month against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
