Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah on Tuesday, August 27 was elected unopposed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The 35-year-old, who currently holds the all-powerful Finance & Commercial Affairs (F&CA) committee of the ICC, etched history as he is set to be the youngest chairman in the ICC history.

Jay Shah will take over the reigns from Greg Barclay, who decided to step down from the post after being at the position since 2020. The 35-year-old is set to take the post from December 1, 2024 in order to continue a legacy of Indian leadership in world cricket’s top governing body. Notably, Jay Shah is set to become the fifth Indian to take the ICC Chairman role, a tradition that began with Jagmohan Dalmiya’s leadership in the late 1990s.

Seeing Shah get elected unopposed on August 27, members of the Indian cricketing fraternity also extended wishes, congratulating him on continuing the Indian legacy at the world stage in cricket. India all-rounder Hardik Pandya took to social media to congratulate Shah while adding that his “vision and drive will help ICC”. “Congratulations @JayShah bhai on being elected as the youngest chairman of ICC. Look forward to seeing you take cricket to even greater heights. Your vision and drive will help ICC, just like it did with BCCI,” Hardik Pandya captioned a post on X.

The Indian all-rounder wasn’t the only one as several others, including former India cricketer, Anil Kumble, head coach Gautam Gambhir, India Women captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, among others also took to social media to extend their wishes to Jay Shah.
