Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchise Gujarat Giants have been handed a massive blow as star Indian cricketer will miss the remainder of the tournament. Gujarat Giants all-rounder Harleen Deol’s WPL 2024 season came to an abrupt end due to an injury.
Deol incurred a knee injury during Gujarat Giants’ third group stage fixture against the UP Warriorz at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The 25-year-old, who was positioned at cover during the match, moved to her right to collect the ball but clutched her left knee during the process. However, she limped off the field during the game, but seeing her injury aggravate, the Giants took to social media to confirm this update.
“It is with regret that we inform you that Harleen Deol will not be able to participate in the remaining Women’s Premier League matches due to injury. Our heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery are with Harleen and we eagerly anticipate her return to action in future seasons,” the Gujarat Giants statement read.
Bharti Fulmali to replace Harleen Deol’s replacement for WPL 2024
The Indian batter, however, failed to capitalise on her chances of batting at number three in the WPL, the Gujarat Giants have named Bharti Fulmali as Harleen Deol’s replacement. The 29-year-old Fulmali, who has featured in two T20Is and plays from Vidarbha in domestic cricket will join the Beth Mooney-led side and hope to make an impact with the bat.
Speaking of the GG, the Beth Mooney-led franchise are reeling at the bottom of the points table with just a solitary win from five games so far in the competition.
