On Tuesday, September 17, the Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian men’s hockey team defeated the hosts, China 1-0 to lift their record fifth title in the Asian Champions Trophy. The match, which was played at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir saw the top two teams compete in a high-octane clash which saw India’s Jugraj Singh finish among the solitary goalscorer. 

India, who entered the tournament as the defending champions, completed back-to-back wins for the first time since 2013 when Pakistan won two consecutive titles beating India (2012) and Japan (2013) respectively. With this win on Tuesday, India also completed their record fifth win, which is most for any Asian country in the competition so far in the eight editions of the tournament.

While the side secured a gold medal finish, China, who made their maiden appearance, sealed a silver with Pakistan finishing at third place after beating Korea earlier on Tuesday. Indian captain, Harmanpreet Singh, who also finished as the leading goal-scorer for the side and second overall after Korea’s Yang Jihua (nine goals) won the Player of the Tournament.
