According to Cricbuzz, the England batter has withdrawn from the tournament, citing personal reasons. Moreover, it is to be noted that Brook’s absence extends beyond the IPL. The 25-year-old had earlier pulled out from the England quad for the five-match Test series in India.
“The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (RCB) had stated in its release. However, this gesture of Brook withdrawing from the IPL 2024 hasn’t gone well with the franchise. “Once players register for the auction, they should honour their commitment. Reneging on it is unprofessional, and the BCCI should address this,” a franchise official was quoted by Cricbuzz.
Speaking about the England batter, Brook had an underwhelming IPL 2023. despite being signed for a sum of INR 13.25 Crore, he managed to score only 190 runs at an average of 21. However, he was released by the Hyderabad-based franchise, the Delhi Capitals signed him at the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai for INR 4 Crore.
