The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side, Afghanistan are taking on Sri Lanka in Match 30 of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. The Afghans won the toss and invited the Kusal Mendis-led side to bat first at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune. While ahead of the start of the match, it was Rashid Khan who gave the team talk.

The Afghan all-rounder, who is playing his 100 th ODI, got a chance to give the pep talk in a circle just minutes before the match. Just at this moment, former India cricketer Irfan Pathan, who is a part of the commentary panel for the ongoing World Cup in India, hailed the all-rounder.
“Hashmat Shahidi may be captain, but Rashid Khan is leader of Afghanistan,” Irfan Pathan said during Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka.
Talking more about these sides, the two locked horns last at the Asia Cup 2023 where the Lankans defeated the Afghans by just two runs. In the ongoing CWC, while Sri Lanka are fifth in the standing, having won two from their five games so far, Afghanistan are seventh with similar results but a inferior NRR.
