Star Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shocked the cricketing fraternity with a sudden announcement of retirement after the third Test against Australia in Brisbane. The 38-year-old announced his retirement through a press conference with skipper Rohit Sharma after the final day of the Gabba Test that ended in a draw. Ashwin has now retired from all forms of international cricket and won’t be seen playing in the remaining two Test matches down under.
R. Ashwin has been one of the most successful spin bowlers for India and has produced match-winning performances many times. He played his last international game during the day-night Test in Adelaide from December 6 to 8. However, a few months ago of his retirement, Ashwin launched his book named ‘I Have the Streets: A Kutty Cricket Story’ that will take his fans through his cricketing journey over the years.

Ravichandran Ashwin launched his book ‘I Have the Streets: A Kutty Cricket Story’ during an event at Taj Coromandel in Chennai in June 2024. In the book, Ashwin has described how he started his cricketing career as a medium pacer in early days, but had to go with off-spin after an injury intervened. Ashwin launched this book along with a renowned sports writer and commentator Siddarth Monga.
Now, as Ravichandran Aswhin has bid adieu to international cricket, the fans will be looking to dive deep into his cricketing journey through his newly launched book. Ashwin has played 106 Tests, 116 ODIs and 65 T20Is for India taking 765 wickets and scoring 4394 runs in all three formats combined. He is also the second highest wicket taker of all time for India in Test cricket with 537 scalps to his name. However, Ashwin will be seen in action again in the upcoming season of the IPL after Chennai Super Kings bought him for INR 9.75 Crore in the mega auction.
