Indian cricket team registered a dominating 295-run win over Australia in the first Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, taking a 1-0 lead on Monday, November 25. On day four of the first Test, India bundled out the hosts for just 238 runs, courtesy Jasprit Bumrah running riot of the batting lineup along with Mohammed Siraj, who also finished with three wickets in the second Aussie innings.
Apart from the bowlers, Indian batting lineup also stood strong with Yashavi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli brining up their respective centuries. While Jaiswal scored 161 off 297 deliveries, Virat Kohli ended his long-awaited century drought (100* off 143). In one of the instances, the 36-year-old took a playful dig at star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant with Mitchell Marsh taking his stride to bowl. Soon afterwards, Kohli was caught saying on the stump mic, “He doesn’t need to hit today, he’s going big (at IPL 2025 mega auction) anyway.”

While it seemed that Virat Kohli’s prediction of Rishabh Pant going big at the IPL 2025 mega auction went right with the wicketkeeper-batter becoming the ost expensive player to be bought in the auction history. The 27-year-old fetched INR 27 Crore at the mega auction with Lucknow Super Giants securing his services after he registered for a base price of INR 2 Crore.
Speaking of Pant’s performance in the opening Test of the five-match series, the wicketkeeper-batter had a forgettable outing as he scored only 38 runs. While he scored 37 off 78 deliveries in the first innings, he was dismissed for just one in the second India innings. However the 27-year-old will aim to come out good in the pink-ball Test, set to be played from December 6 to 10 at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.
