On November 24, Delhi Capitals bought KL Rahul on a INR 14 Crore contract in the IPL 2025 mega auction at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The 32-year-old, who is quite an experienced campaigner at the franchise and international level, provides stability to a batting lineup at the top of the order apart from bringing his wicket-keeping and captaincy skills to the table, which prompted Delhi Capitals to sign him for the 2025 season, and it led to the social media platform X going abuzz, with some stating that it’s a steal.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, KL Rahul requested his release from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after captaining them to two consecutive seasons in the last three years. With his decision to part ways with one of the newest franchises in the league, KL Rahul became a hot commodity for a lot of the teams to potentially sign for huge sums of money, and Delhi Capitals managed to secure his services for the 2025 season of the IPL.
Following a slow start to his career in the IPL in the first three seasons, debuting for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2013, the second coming of KL Rahul in RCB colours in the 2016 season put him firmly on the cricketing map. Joining Punjab Kings (PBKS) ahead of the IPL 2018 season was the best possible thing to have happened to KL Rahul, consistency churning out around 600 runs in four straight years, captaining them in 2020 and 2021 before his returns with the bat at LSG were just as impressive.
