Former New Zealand fast bowler and cricket pundit Simon Doull has made a startling claim about the fitness of Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya after the five-time champions defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Playing at the Wankhede Stadium, MI registered a dominant seven-wicket over the Royal Challengers as they chased down the 196-run total in 15.3 overs.
But in the 1st innings of this encounter, Mumbai were under pressure as every bowler barring Jasprit Bumrah went for runs, including Hardik Pandya. The new MI captain started the 2024 season taking the new ball but has picked up just one wicket in his eight overs so far in the 2024 season while bowling at an economy of 11.12.
He’s injured: Doull on reason behind Hardik Pandya not bowling for MI
Addressing Hardik's lack of bowling, Simon Doull, while talking to Cricbuzz, opined that the Indian all-rounder is nursing an injury but isn't admitting the fitness concern. The former Kiwi speedster said, “You go out and make a statement by opening the bowling in-game no. 1, and suddenly, you are not required. He’s injured. I’m telling you there is something wrong with him. He is not admitting it. But there is something wrong with him for sure. That is my gut feeling.”
Will be bowling at the right time: Hardik Pandya on not bowling for MI
When asked about his diminished role as a bowler after the game against the Delhi Capitals, Pandya conveyed he would be bowling at the 'right time'. The new MI captain said, “All good will be bowling at the right time. Had it covered, so didn't need to roll my arm over."
