France and Real Madrid star forward Kylian Mbappe had another frustrating match on Wednesday night as he failed to goal, resulting in the loss against Liverpool. The player, who was once termed as the best striker in the world, is now facing the worst period of his career. In the ongoing Champions League fixture against Liverpool, Mbappe not only went goalless but missed a penalty, too. Lately, there has been a growing concern towards his form since joining Paris Saint-Germain in June.
Mbappé, who has only scored once in his past six games across all competitions, has had a difficult start at Real Madrid, with one goal in five Champions League outings for the club. However, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is positive about his star forward, praising him as an 'extraordinary' player who lacks confidence but will be back soon.
Mbappe receives vote of confidence from coach Carlo Ancelotti
Kylian Mbappe anticipated that joining Real Madrid would put an end to his Champions League drought. That seemed a long way off on Wednesday, as a 2-0 loss to Liverpool put the defending champions in danger of being eliminated from the European soccer club’s best championship at the first stage, leaving them fighting to qualify for the next round. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is still confident in his star forward and mentioned it as a 'difficult moment' for Mbappe.
He said, “We’ve got to give him our support and love and he will soon be fine. It could be a lack of confidence, maybe. Sometimes, when moments in the game are not working out, the idea is to keep things simple. Don’t complicate things.“He’s going through that moment now. You get through them. Don’t blame him for missing a penalty. People miss penalties. We can’t put too much grief on him for that,' he further added.
Mbappe secured nine goals in 18 appearances for Madrid after being released by Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent. However, he has only scored once in the Champions League, and his new club has lost three of its five games in the reconfigured competition. For Mbappe, and especially his team, Real Madrid, the coming weekend is challenging, and will look forward to bouncing back when the team plays against Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu.
