Several former cricketers and sporting personalities extended greetings on the occasion of Dhanteras. Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar along with Gautam Gambhir, and Anil Kumble were the few who wished their fans as the five-day festival of Diwali began on November 10. Diwali is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in the Indian subcontinent and Dhanteras marks the beginning of the celebration.

Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to wish his fans as he wrote, “Dhanteras reminds us that true wealth extends beyond just material possessions; on this auspicious day, let's cherish the priceless treasure of good health.” The former cricketer added, “Health is wealth, and is the foundation of a prosperous and fulfilling life. This is also something that my grandmother instilled in me at a very young age. Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous Dhanteras!”

Apart from him, former cricketer and commentator Gautam Gambhir also wished his fans to request them to go local during the festive season. Gambhir tweeted, “Wishing everyone a very happy and prosperous Dhanteras! This festive season, let’s spread the message of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji by going #VocalForLocal and making our Bharat more atmanirbhar!”

Joining them was the former Indian captain, Anil Kumble who wished his fans by tweeting, “Wishing you all a prosperous Dhanteras! May this day bring abundance of joy to your life.”

Former India star batter Suresh Raina wrote, " Embrace the glow of lamps, the sparkle of gold, and the warmth of family on this auspicious occasion. Happy Dhanteras to all! "

Speaking of Diwali, India will lock horns with the Netherlands on November 12, Sunday, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
