On September 5, Tuesday, Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector of the Indian men’s cricket team, announced the highly anticipated 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup 2023, which will begin next month at home. Rohit Sharma is going to captain Team India at the 13th edition of the "flagship event of the international cricket calendar,” with an expectation of bringing the trophy home, for the third time in their illustrious cricketing history.

Virat Kohli, the former ODI World Cup winner, will take part in the prestigious tournament for the fourth time in his career. The rest of the batters in the 15-member squad includes names like Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav, who managed to make the cut, despite not performing consistently enough in ODIs in his short career.

KL Rahul, who is yet to play a competitive cricket match since May, due to multiple injuries, has been included in the ODI World Cup 2023 plans. He is one of the two players, who are expected to fulfil the responsibility of being a wicketkeeper in the tournament, along with Ishan Kishan.

The all-rounder role will be performed by the vice-captain Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and the experienced Ravindra Jadeja, who will be participating in his third ODI World Cup. Meanwhile, the bowling attack will be spearheaded by the returning Jasprit Bumrah, who will have Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur for company in the fast-bowling department, while the lone spinner in the 15-member squad is Kuldeep Yadav.

When the ODI World Cup 2023 squad for India was announced, the entire social media was buzzing, with many different takes from the Indian fans. While some of them were wishing for the ultimate triumph for Team India, others weren’t having any of the 15-member team combination picked by the national selectors.

The men’s selection panel of Team India got criticised for excluding some of the big players in the ODI setup in recent years from the 15-member squad, including the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, and Ravichandran Ashwin, among others. The Indian cricket fans were disappointed about how some of their favourite cricketers were left out of the ODI World Cup 2023 squad, making their frustrations known on Twitter.
