Henry Cejudo's comeback has suffered a setback as the former two-division UFC champion has announced that he is out of his scheduled fight with Marlon "Chito" Vera at UFC 292 due to a shoulder injury. Cejudo, who retired in 2020 after defending his bantamweight title against Dominick Cruz, made his return to the octagon in May this year but lost a close split decision to current champion Aljamain Sterling.
The 36-year-old was looking to bounce back quickly by taking on Vera, who is on a three-fight winning streak, at UFC 292 on August 19 in Boston. However, Cejudo revealed on Thursday that he has a 50 percent tear in his right shoulder that requires six to eight weeks of rehab.
"Some important news... Unfortunately, I won't be able to compete on Aug 19 at UFC 292. I have a tear in my right shoulder that requires rehab. I wish I could've got in there w/ Chito, but I won't be able to make a full recovery in time." Cejudo wrote on Twitter.
Cejudo (16-3) returned for the Sterling fight after three years of retirement as the Arizona resident was the UFC flyweight champion in 2018 and 2019 and won the bantamweight title in 2019, making him just the fourth simultaneous multidivisional champion in UFC history.
Vera, meanwhile, reacted to the news of Cejudo's withdrawal with a blunt video with him saying, “Well; Fuck.”
It is not clear yet if the UFC will find a replacement opponent for Vera or reschedule the fight for a later date.
