Denmark’s star tennis player Holger Rune seemed unpleased with the ATP tour’s official X post favouring the top-seeded Jannik Sinner following their Quarter-Final clash at the Monte Carlo Masters. The Danish no.8 went down to the World no.2 Italian by 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3 to bow out of the tournament.
However, it was the on-field argument between Rune and match officials that led the Danish to lash out his anger at his X (formerly Twitter). During Rune’s second-set service game, he was slammed with a time violation which caused the audience to cheer against him. Following that, the 20-year-old replied to them by giving a hand gesture to keep quiet.
The chair umpire didn’t take the action nicely as he handed Rune an unsportsmanlike conduct warning. It led to an argument between him and the umpire as the Danish thought it was unfair to him and demanded a supervisor to look into the matter.
Following the defeat, the ATP tour posted a clip on their Twitter account with the caption, “May the force be with you, Jannik Sinner,” to which Rune replied, “Meaning what ATP tour…? Not that you gave me the best conditions in the first place having to play 2 matches the day before ending late, leaving almost no recovery time. Chair Umpire making crucial mistakes and giving wrong warning that disturbed the game. May the force be with you, Jesus Christ.”
Earlier, Holger Rune had advanced to the Quarter-Finals by winning against the Indian Sumit Nagal in the round of 32 clash by 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Following in on the winning run, Rune further put down Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov by 7-6(11), 3-6, 7-6(7) in the round of 16 games to set a date with Sinner in quarters.
