On June 5 annually, the world comes together to celebrate the occasion of World Environment Day, to raise awareness and encourage action about environmental protection. On its 50th anniversary and throughout its illustrious history, cricketers from India and across the globe have done their bit to raise awareness about preserving nature.
The official website of World Environment Day recently revealed that the theme on June 5 of this year will focus on solving the problem of plastic pollution under the campaign “#BeatPlasticPollution.” The host of the meeting will be Cote D’Ivoire, while getting support from the government of the Netherlands.
Rohit Sharma, who has been at the forefront of bringing a positive change in the mindset of people regarding the protection of the environment around them, sent out a post on Instagram earlier today, to reiterate the mission set out by the United Nations. He also wore a t-shirt which had a telling caption about the cause, “End Plastic Waste.”
Meanwhile, the Instagram post from the current Indian captain read, “The theme for this World Environment Day is #BeatPlasticPollution, a cause close to my heart & the need of the hour for our planet earth. May this World Environment Day be a reminder to do our bit to keep the planet safe by re-using, reducing & recycling.”
Furthermore, some of the other Indian cricketers who took to Twitter to send out tweets about World Environment Day were Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, and Cheteshwar Pujara, among others.
