The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that a total of 147,000 trees will be planted across the country as a part of the joint Green Dot Balls initiative taken during the IPL 2023 Playoffs and Final. The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah had announced that for every dot ball bowled in the playoffs and final, 500 trees will be planted across the country.
Ahead of the playoffs in the recently concluded edition of the famous cash-rich league, the BCCI had planned a unique initiative with Tata Groups. As the total number of dot balls played during the playoffs and the final was 294, the BCCI will plant 1,47,000 trees.
The BCCI has revealed the number of dot balls bowled in each of the aforementioned four matches. In Qualifier 1, 184 dot balls were bowled, whereas the number was 96 and 68 in Eliminator and Qualifier 2, respectively. Meanwhile, the number of dot balls bowled in the final was only 46.
IPL is known for taking unique initiatives, and needless to say, such drive has never been a part of any other sports league. Speaking of the tournament, another thrilling and entertaining edition of the famous T20I league ended with Chennai Super Kings winning the title. CSK Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni lifted his fifth IPL title, and the 2022 champions Gujarat Titans finished second in the 2023 season.
