England winger Jadon Sancho made a transfer from Manchester United to join Chelsea in a last-minute agreement of the summer window. As per the latest claims by several media reports, Sancho has taken a hefty pay cut to join his new side. While Sancho is on an initial loan deal, there has been an obligation with his new side to buy him the next season. With his move, he has put an end to his miserable spell at United, where he had a highly-publicised fall out with boss Erik ten Hag.
Sancho joined the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund with a huge fanfare in 2021, where the former had splashed a whopping sum of 73 million pounds. However, if Chelsea signs him permanently, Chelsea will have to cough up a huge loss. According to reports by Athletic, Sancho took a generous pay cut to navigate his way through to the transfer alongside Joao Felix. Notably, Felix also accepted a pay cut as he was signed for Chelsea from Atletico Madrid for a permanent deal.
Sancho was one of the highest paid members of his former club, and it goes without saying that his move to a new team would come at a cost for the side. Speaking about his move to Chelsea, Sancho shared his excitement and said that he was happy to be back to London. TimesNow quoted him as saying, "I’m really excited to be here. London is where I grew up and I’m happy to be back. The manager spoke to me about the project and, for a young player, it's exciting. Hopefully I can bring goals and assists to the Bridge."
Talking about their campaign, Chelsea have had a mixed start to the new season as they have managed to secure two wins in five matches in all competitions.
