There has been some tension in the air surrounding the managers of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, after Hansi Flick made some comments about Barca’s comparison to Real Madrid. In a pre-match interview before the Osasuna match, Flick was asked about Barca’s tight schedule over the next few days and the less than 72 hours gap between two matches. The reporter referred to an old comment by Madrid gaffer Carlo Ancelotti when he had lashed out at the authorities that his club would not play in such a scenario again.
Speaking on the same lines, Flick hit out at the reporter saying, “We are Barca, not Real Madrid” and said that he has no choice but to participate in these games without complaining. In the latest pre-match conference, Carlo Ancelotti responded to Hansi Flick’s comments by saying, “I agree with Hansi Flick…Real Madrid is not Barcelona”. When asked about the current points gap between the two clubs, the Madrid manager confidently replied, “Barca are ahead of us… But we still have to play El Clasico!”
My full focus is on Real Madrid: Ancelotti clarifies amidst Brazil national team links
Another important topic that was touched upon during this press-conference related to Ancelotti was his links towards taking up a managerial role with the Brazil national team. While the rumours have been doing the rounds since a long time, Brazil’s recent loss against Argentina has added fuel to the fire with reported news of Brazil’s football federation looking for a change in the management of the national team before the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ancelotti responded to these comments by saying, “I appreciate Brazil but there was no contact between the federation and myself in the recent days. My full focus is on Real Madrid.” Ancelotti has said this as Real Madrid will be bracing for an important period towards the end of the current season. While they are well and alive in the La Liga title race; three points behind Barcelona, they also face a tough outing against Arsenal in the Champions League quarterfinal.
