On Sunday, March 9, Rohit Sharma-led Team India lifted the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 as they defeated New Zealand in the summit clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. Coming into the final on the back of a four-match winning streak, the Men in Blue finally ended their 12-year-long wait of lifting the Champions Trophy title. With a comprehensive win, the Men in Blue also became the first team to win three Champions Trophy titles.
While Rohit Sharma led the Indian side from the front with his 83-ball 76-run knock, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul also played pivotal role in the victory. Moments after lifting the title, the 37-year-old finally put his retirement rumours to rest. It is to be noted that several reports had claimed that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final could be Rohit Sharma’s last in the 50-over format.
I'm not going to retire from this format: Rohit Sharma
When asked of his future plans in the post-match press conference, the star batter and skipper laughed off the question at first and replied, “Koi future plan ni hai. Jo chal ra hai wo chalega (There’s no future plan, things will keep on going as they are). I'm not going to retire from this format. Just to make sure that no rumours are spread moving forward."
Furthermore, Rohit Sharma also praised the team, with whom he lifted back-to-back ICC titles. “We’ll see, winning two ICC trophies is a big achievement for the team and to go undefeated is again icing on the cake. I’ve seen very few teams, who’ve won two back-to-back tournaments undefeated. For us it was important to prepare well after coming here (Dubai) and play what was in front of us. We used the conditions to our advantage and won the title,” Rohit Sharma added while speaking in the post-match press conference.
In the crucial match, Rohit Sharma was one of the star performers of the side, playing a sublime inning of 76 runs. His 83-ball stay in the middle saw him hit seven fours and three sixes, including his trademark pull shot maximum off Kyle Jamiseon’s over. Moreover, he reached his half-century off 41 deliveries, which was also his maiden 50-plus score in an ICC tournament final.
