Jess Jonassen, the Brisbane Heat captain in the women’s competition, welcomed Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues to the team in a hilarious post on X, talking about how she better be getting need of her dancing shoes once again. Notably, during the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) draft for the 2024 season, Jemimah Rodrigues was picked by Brisbane Heat in the first round.
In the year 2024, Jess Jonassen and Jemimah Rodrigues have built up quite a friendship on the franchise cricket circuit while playing for Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) before turning up for Trinbago Knight Riders in Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL). Last month, Jonassen and Rodrigues made the headlines with their dance tribute to the Bollywood actor, Shah Rukh Khan, who is also the co-owner of TKR.
After Brisbane Heat secured the services of Jemimah Rodrigues for the WBBL 2024, her new teammate and the captain took to her official X account, and wrote, “Let’s go!! guess I better get my dancing shoes ready again huh @JemiRodrigues.” During the WPL and WCPL, their teams were able to perform reasonably well without winning the titles, which is something they will be looking to put right with Brisbane Heat in WBBL later this year.
Harmanpreet Kaur missed out on being picked in WBBL 2024 draft
Apart from Jemimah Rodrigues, there were five more Indian players who got picked up in the WBBL draft. Shikha Pandey will be a part of the Brisbane Heat alongside Jemimah Rodrigues, while Deepti Sharma and Yastika Bhatia (Melbourne Stars), Dayalan Hemalatha (Perth Scorchers), and Smriti Mandhana (Adelaide Strikers - pre-signed player) are the other players from India, who will be playing the 2024 season of the WBBL.
Moreover, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was one of the biggest names, who didn’t get picked by any teams in the WBBL, while Shreyanka Patil and Radha Yadav missed out on joining the women’s competition as well.
