Former Australian cricketer Michael Hussey gave his take on the angry reaction by Indian skipper Rohit Sharma after Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped Marnus Labuschagne’s catch on Akash Deep’s delivery on day four of Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. Notably, Labuschagne who scored 70 runs in the second innings almost lost his wicket to Akash Deep after he edged the ball that went towards Jaiswal in the slips. However, the youngster made a blunder and dropped the catch, allowing Marnus Labuschagne to become Australia’s top scorer in the second innings.
The catch drop didn’t go well with Rohit Sharma who punched in the air showing his frustration towards Yashasvi Jaiswal. The reaction by Rohit wasn’t pleasing for Michael Hussey who was in the commentary panel at that moment. “I don’t like that reaction from the Indian skipper. I know he’s emotional and he desperately wants wickets but you’re the one that has to send the message of calm and support,” Hussey said as quoted in CricTracker.
No one means to drop a catch: Michael Hussey
Speaking further, Michael Hussey said that a young player like Yashasvi Jaiswal needs to be calmed after dropping a big catch of a player like Marnus Labuschagne. “No one means to drop a catch. He’ll feel bad enough as it is for putting a catch down, particularly someone like Marnus Labuschagne. It happens quickly – it’s in, it’s out. You don't need to see that as a young player,” the former cricketer further said.
Speaking on the same matter, Australia’s women cricketer Alyssa also shared her opinion and said “You need him to walk out to open the batting alongside him as well. Make some runs to try and win a Test match for your country.”
