India suffered yet another shocking exit from the ICC tournament as England defeated Men in Blue by 10 wickets in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022, at Melbourne Cricket Ground, on November 10 (Thursday). India entered into the knockout stage on the back of convincing performance in the league stage but could not ease past England in the knockout stage.
India failed miserably in the game as England handed their opponents their worst defeat in the current edition. Post the defeat, criticism started pouring in from all quarters as the batting legend Sunil Gavaskar already claimed that ‘few shocking retirements are on the cards.’
Meanwhile, former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir surprisingly lauded MS Dhoni for winning three ICC trophies by taking dig at Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. "Someone will come and probably score more double 100s than Rohit Sharma and more 100s than Virat Kohli, but I don't think so any Indian captain would be able to achieve three ICC trophies,” said Gautam Gambhir while speaking at Star Sports.
Notably, Dhoni led the side in its inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, 50-over World Cup in 2011 and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni is also the only Indian skipper who has won all of the ICC trophies during his tenure, and added more feather to his cap by winning four IPL trophies (2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021). Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma admitted that team didn’t perform well in the game against England, and bowlers disappointed while defending the total.
