Ryan Garcia admitted that he drank every single night and still managed to win Devin Haney in their highly-anticipated bout. Garcia knocked down Haney thrice and won the fight by majority decision on Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. With the fight, Garcia handed the WBC super lightweight champion the first defeat of his professional career. The 25-year-old dropped Haney in the seventh, tenth, and 11th rounds to win the fight by 115-109, 114-110, and 112-112.
After the fight, Garcia claimed that he drank every night, but ended up winning the fight anyway. During the post-fight press conference, he said, “I don’t give a f*ck what people say about me. I walked through the fire and still held it down and still beat f*ckin’ Devin Haney, and still drank every day and still beat him. I did everything. What the f*ck? What happened? False reality, right?”
He added, “Drank every single night! Went out on the first Monday, and Tuesday, and what happened? I won. Not necessarily am I proud of that, but I’m just saying, it was a statement to show you, you guys can’t really f*ck with me. I do whatever I want, I still won.”
Ryan Garcia smokes weed to celebrate win against Devin Haney
Garcia smoked weed to celebrate the win over Devin Haney at Brooklyn Barclays Center on Saturday. He posted the video on his social media and wrote, “had to”. Earlier during the post-match conference, he said, “I’m going through a lot. I went through a divorce. A lot of shit has been happening to me in my life that low-key kinda broke me. I did what I felt I needed to do to feel OK. So I drank every day and did whatever I wanted.”
He added, “I’m not proud of it, at all. I just pray for my kids and hopefully, they’re OK. I hope I made them proud. Don’t look at me like an example.” Coming back to the fight, Garcia landed 87 of 214 blows according to Compubox’s punch statistics, which were way less than Haney’s 106.
