Despite Chennai Super Kings (CSK) getting eliminated from IPL 2024 after their loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their last league match, speculations around MS Dhoni’s future has been one of the key talking points. However, the former CSK skipper hasn’t put out an official world in this regard, the CEO of the Yellow Army also clarified that there haven’t been talks on MS Dhoni’s retirement in the dressing room.
But many former cricketers and pundits have shared their takes on Dhoni’s future including the likes of Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa, former Pakistan cricketer and legend Wasim Akram is the latest to share his side of story when it comes to the legendary wicketkeeper-batter.
In a conversation with Sportskeeda, Akram said, “I have a gut feeling, he’ll be done after this. Players like him come in a lifetime, it all depends on him.” “His legacy is not just that (110m) six, it’s something else. He’s done a lot for Indian cricketer. He brought the mindset. As a captain, he brought calmness, played captaincy knocks, the way he became a finisher, the way he has groomed players, and showed consistency, so this will be his legacy,” he further added.
The three-time World Cup winner with Team India has time and again spoken when asked about his retirement. After the conclusion of the IPL 2023, Dhoni said that he will play another edition for the fans. Moreover, ahead of the IPL 2024, MS Dhoni passed on the CSK captaincy baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
In the 2024 edition of the IPL, the 42-year-old amassed 161 runs from 11 innings at an average of 53.67 and a strike rate of 220.54. Speaking of the defending champions, CSK finished at the fifth place in the points table with seven wins and as many defeats.
