Pakistan leg spinner Usman Qadir blamed the Pakistan Cricket Board and the former management for mishandling his thumb injury before the 2022 World Cup. Qadir debuted for the national team in 2020, and since then, he appeared in 25 T20Is as well as one ODI. Pakistan’s campaign at the 2023 Asian Games was the last assignment Qadir was a part of, and since then, he has been sitting out of the team due to frequent injuries and performance slump.

The 30-year-old was a part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2022 but was later replaced due to a thumb injury he sustained in a T20I against England. The cricketer recently appeared in a YouTube show hosted by Hafiz Muhammad Imran, where he explained the injury that made him miss the tournament and blamed the PCB management for allegedly keeping him out of the tournament.

Usman Qadir blames PCB management for mishandling thumb injury

The Pakistani cricketer blamed the governing body for mishandling the injury and allegedly keeping him out of the squad. He said, "When we were playing England before the 2022 World Cup, I fractured my thumb. This is very interesting… I fractured my thumb: after playing seven T20Is (against England), we went to New Zealand. People said, ‘Your thumb was broken, you’re only travelling around for fun.”

He added that the PCB Chief Medical Officer asked him to not bowl for two weeks due to the possibility of chaos in the board and asked him to get an X-ray done. The cricketer added, “When the X-ray came back, the doc said I have two fractures. I was surprised: ‘I was told one fracture in Pakistan, you’re saying two.’ He said, ‘You need to rest.’ I understood what games they were playing.”

Qadir went on to say, “In Pakistan, I had one fracture. When I travelled, I had two. When I wasn’t selected for the World Cup, the doc said I’m a good bowler I will be selected, and that I was actually fine to play the World Cup. Which PCB official should I go to and tell all this? Everyone knows everything (in the team). What do I say.”
