Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager, has promised to stay at the club even if they are relegated from the Premier League over alleged breach of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules in a press conference before their upcoming clash against Tottenham. After signing a two-year contract extension with Manchester City recently, which would keep him at the club until 2027, Pep Guardiola also claimed to the media that 75% of the clubs in the Premier League want them to go down.
The announcement regarding Pep Guardiola signing a contract extension with Manchester City came despite the uncertainty surrounding the 115 Premier League charges faced by reigning champions. The decision on the aforementioned charges isn’t expected to come until early next year, but if Manchester City are found guilty, then they could face the prospect of getting relegated apart from hefty fines and points deductions in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola had spoken sometime ago about managing Manchester City in League One if necessary
While Manchester City have been categorically denying any wrongdoing in the matter, Pep Guardiola had spoken sometime ago about managing the club in League One if it comes down to it. Ahead of the big clash against Tottenham in the Premier League, he reiterated his stance, and said, as per BBC Sport, “I said that six months ago. You have my interviews. I said when all the clubs accused us of doing something wrong and people say 'what happens if we are relegated?' I will be here.”
The Spaniard also claimed some of the clubs in the Premier League want Manchester City to go down and play in the lower divisions of English football, while giving his reasoning behind his thought process. He remarked, “Seventy-five per cent of the clubs want it, because I know what they do behind the scenes and this sort of stuff. But I don't live with it, I live with the four defeats, what I have to do. There are lawyers on both sides. I don't think about it.”
