Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell opened up after being released from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) squad ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Notably, the Aussie all-rounder has been with the franchise since 2021 after they roped in his services for INR 14.25 Crore after two forgettable seasons with the Punjab-based franchise.

The Bengaluru-based franchise rather went on to retain three players in Virat Kohli (INR 21 Crore), Rajat Patidar (INR 11 Crore) and Yash Dayal (INR 5 Crore), thus using INR 37 Crore from the available purse of INR 120 Crore. Although, they still have the Right To Match (RTM) card available, along with a price purse of INR 83 Crore as they enter the auction.

I wouldn't say my RCB journey's over: Maxwell hints at his reunion with RCB soon

Speaking on ESPNcricinfo’s Around the wicket show, Glenn Maxwell revealed the detailed talk around his exit from the franchise as he was left impressed with the message being conveyed prior to the deadline date. The 36-year-old during the discussion also hinted that he could return into the side in the future as he said, “I wouldn't say my RCB journey's over.”

"I got a phone call from Mo Bobat and Andy Flower. I sat there on a zoom call, and they sort of explained to me the decision not to be retained. And, it was actually a really beautiful exit meeting, if that could be possible. We ended up talking about the game for about half an hour and talking about their strategy and what they were looking to get to do, going forward. So, I was really happy with that," Maxwell said on ESPNcricinfo's Around the wicket show.

"They were obviously changing a few of their staff as well. So they needed to get that sorted before they started talking to players. And I understood that process was going to take a bit of time. And, but yeah, you're always sort of getting a little bit edgy around that, that last date about whether you're gonna be retained and not so sure what's gonna happen. But, completely understand what they the direction they're heading in. They went, with three unions to build that core. And, yeah, hopefully their overseas can complement, those locals. Yeah I wouldn't say my RCB journey's over, but, yeah, I'd certainly love to get back there. It was a great franchise to play for and really enjoyed my time there," he further revealed.

It is to be noted that Maxwell had a forgettable outing with RCB in IPL 2024. He scored just 52 runs from nine innings at an average of 5.77 with highest score of 28. With the ball, he picked six wickets at an economy of 8.06.
