Preview:

After battling in a five-game One-day International series, India and New Zealand take on each other in the eighth match of the 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup. The game will be played at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on 10 March 2022. Both India and New Zealand enter this match after dominating their previous opponent. The Women in Blue breezed past arch-rivals Pakistan by 107 runs. Whereas the Kiwis comfortably took care of Bangladesh with a nine-wicket victory.

Pitch Report:

Seddon Park has been a greatly balanced pitch but only during normal weather. If there are too many clouds with increased humidity and higher chances of rain, the pitch tilts in favour of the bowlers. Curators at Seddon Park often use grass to hold the wicket, which could come into play during the early stages of the match, but when a batter spends a decent amount of time on the pitch, it can be rewarding.

Team analysis:

India:

The Indian team have made significant progress after suffering a 4-1 defeat against New Zealand before the World Cup. They won both their warmup games and then comfortably handled Pakistan. The batting unit had some troubles as Captain Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Shafali Verma failed to get any runs.

But the Women in Blue had two new saviours in Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana, who stitched up a record 122 run partnership for the seventh wicket taking the score to 244. The second innings saw a more controlled performance as India bundled Pakistan for 137. All bowlers took wickets and had an economic performance as well.

New Zealand:

New Zealand is touted as one of the top contenders to win the 2022 World Cup trophy at home. After suffering a heartbreaking loss against the West Indies, the Ferns made a remarkable comeback. Although, they suffered a major batting collapse as they fumbled an easy chase, but skipper Sophie Devine hit a century alongside great performances from Katey Martin and Jess Kerr. But unfortunately, they lost three wickets in the last over and failed to win the game.

But in the next game, a dominant all-around performance insured a blowout nine-wicket victory over Bangladesh in a rain-affected game. Amy Satterthwaite took three wickets in five overs while other bowlers were economical as Bangladesh scored 140-8 in 27 overs. Suzie Bates lit up the ground in the second innings as she hit a game-winning unbeaten 79 as the Kiwis chased the target in 20 overs.

Match Prediction

Conclusion: New Zealand has a slight edge over India as both teams enter this game with positive results. The Ferns dominated India in the ODI series and could win this game. But if the Women in Blue have another all-around performance with crucial players Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur scoring runs, they could surprise the hosts.
