The iconic photograph of legendary batter S achin Tendulkar where he was snapped while walking for his last career innings won the award for the best photograph in 2013. The picture won the award of the 2013 Wisden-MCC Cricket Photograph of the Year. It was taken by Mid-Day Media photographer Atul Kamble, and it showed Tendulkar walking out to bat for his last innings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai during the second Test match against West indies.
The judging panel consisted of Chris Smith, Patrick Eagar, Nigel Davies, Eileen Langsley and Hugh Routledge. They chose the picture from a total of 11 shortlisted images which were selected from a total of 500 entries submitted by photographers from around the world. The winning picture as well as those from the two runners up were featured in the 2014 edition of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack and the eleven shortlisted photos were displayed at the Lord’s.
Sachin Tendulkar posted 74 runs in final Test for India
In his final innings of his legendary career, Sachin Tendulkar posted a total of 74 runs. It was his 200th and the final Test, and the entire Wankhede Stadium went completely silent when he edged Narsingh Deonarine to first slip where Darren Sammy took a sharp catch. Tendulkar’s last day in international cricket saw thousands of supporters with painted faces and Indian flags turning up to bid adieu to their ‘God of Cricket’.
Tendulkar made his Test debut in November 1989 and had a career aggregate to 15,921. The game saw West Indies registering defeat by an innings and 126 runs, owing to Cheteshwar Pujara’s 113 and Rohit Sharma's 111*.
