Ashwin replaced Axar Patel, who got injured in the Asia Cup 2023 against Bangladesh in Team India’s last Super 4s game. Ahead of the World Cup, Ashwin was picked for the three ODIs against Australia and put forth a decent performance by picking up four wickets and outfoxing players like Marnus Labsuchnage and David Warner.

While speaking to Dinesh Karthik, Ashwin said, “I have kept saying this, this could be my last World Cup for India.” Speaking about his late selection for the World Cup, Ashwin said, “I honestly wasn’t thinking about being here. Enjoying the game has been my prime motto for the last four to five years and I would like to do that again in this tournament.”

Further in his chat with DK, Ashwin spoke about the pressure on him to perform in the World Cup. He said, “Pressure is of paramount importance for most players in this tournament. Being in a good space and training to enjoy the game will hold me in good stead I reckon. Want to enjoy the tournament I don’t know. For me enjoying the tournament is more important,” he added.
