Former England captain Nasser Hussain took a hilarious dig at the Multan Stadium pitch after the first Test between England and Pakistan. Since Day 1 of the Test between Pakistan and England, the surface in Multan has offered no assistance to the bowlers. The two teams amassed a combined total of 1379 runs for 17 wickets. In the first innings, Pakistan scored 556 runs, whereas England scored 823 runs.
The extraordinary run-fest sparked criticism from pundits and fans alike for being excessively batter-friendly. Former England captain Nasser Hussain took a dig at the surface and went on to suggest that if a baller misses three balls, he should be considered out. Hussain said, “If a batsman misses three balls, he should be declared out on this track.” Hussain went on to laud Harry Brook and Joe Root for their fitness and batting on record-breaking Day 4.
It’s one of the flattest pitches that we’ve ever seen really: Nasser Hussain on Multan pitch
The former England cricketer added, “That’s one thing maybe this side has been criticised for with the bat, is that they’ve not been ruthless. Forget the conditions and forget the pitch, it’s one of the flattest pitches that we’ve ever seen really, but they were definitely ruthless. And in their own special way. How can you score 820 in 150 overs and still be ruthless? This side has managed to do that.”
He added, “Duckett and Crawley bat the way they do, Root did not change the tempo of the way he bats. Of anyone who has got over 250, his boundary percentage was the lowest, which just shows his level of fitness and the nature of his ruthless batting that we’ve seen for a number of years.”
