Former India football team Head Coach, Igor Stimac has reached an agreement with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and is set to receive USD 400,000 compensation. Notably, this comes after Stimac was sacked from the position and was involved in a heated argument with the AIFF. For those who are not aware, Stimac’s contract as the Blue Tigers’ coach was terminated a year before his employment contract was about to end. The decision was made after the Blue Tigers were eliminated from the second round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers despite getting an easy draw.

Stimac, who had been with the side for five years, even threatened that he would take legal action if his dues were not settled within 10 days. Three months after this, both parties have agreed to settle the matter. A source close to the development said that the top brass of the AIFF has approved the payment of USD 400,000 to the Croatian national.

"The AIFF top brass has approved payment of USD 400,000 as compensation to settle the issue with AIFF," a source privy to the development told PTI on Sunday, September 8. Notably, this agreement comes with the AIFF struggling for funds amid reduced budget.

AIFF previously offered three-month salary, reveals Igor Stimac

After his sacking, Igor Stimac in an interview with ESPN India mentioned that he was offered a three-month salary before he was sacked. However, Stimac decided not to accept the offer and took the case to FIFA as he was seeking a compensation of USD 920,000 for two years salary.

The 57-year-old former Head Coach, Stimac joined the Blue Tigers in 2019. Last October, he got an extension till 2026 while the team was playing in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 where the team failed to win a single game. Meanwhile, after Stimac’s sacking, Manolo Marquez was appointed the head coach of the Indian team.
