England completed a historic turnaround to beat India by 28 runs in the first Test of the five-match series. Playing in Hyderabad, the Three Lions were down and out in the second innings with the bat, but Ollie Pope with his magnificent 196 helped set a competitive 231-run total. Then it was an incredible seven-wicket spell by Tom Hartley to help the visitors clinch the game.

Coming back to the start of the match, England started with the bat but quickly fell prey to Indian spinners with Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, combining to pick up eight wickets. Despite a poor effort by the top order, captain Ben Stokes played a flamboyant knock of 70 in 88 balls to take the first innings total to 256.

Retaliating with the bat, India had a brilliant start despite losing Rohit Sharma early. Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal took the reins as smashed England's inexperienced bowling attack to post 80 in 74 balls with ten fours and three sixes. Supporting Jaiswal, KL Rahul and Jadeja also scored valuable 86 and 87 to take India's total to 436. For the Three Lions, Joe Root emerged as the pick of the bowlers with his four-wicket haul.

Trailing by 180 runs, England started with a positive approach as the opening duo of Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett posted a 45-run stand. Though the Three Lions lost a few quick wickets, Ollie Pope took charge and carried the English batting through the innings. England's number three scored 196 in 278 balls to help post a mammoth 416-run total.

India seemingly lost their grip on the contest with the English tail allowing to set a 231-run total. Continuing their momentum from their batting effort, Ben Stokes' men put in an inspiring effort and bundled out India at 202. Rohit Sharma top-scored for the hosts with his 39 but no other batter could build on their starts as the Men in Blue are now down 0-1 in the five-match series.
