The Indian team sealed the five-match Test series against England after registering a five-wicket win in the fourth Test at Ranchi. With this victory, the Men in Blue ended the draught of chasing 150+ targets in the fourth innings in home Test matches. The triumph also extended India's dominant 12-year run at home with this being the hosts' 17th straight series win.
After winning the toss, England started well with the bat despite a dream start for Akash Deep, who made his international debut. The West Bengal speedster picked up three quick wickets but Joe Root's resilient 122 alongside Ollie Robinson's 58 and Ben Foakes' 47, helped the Three Lions post a towering score of 353.
After a decent bowling effort, India had a struggling start with the bat as Rohit Sharma departed when the score was two. The star of this series, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a stunning 72 to continue his stellar form which wasn't enough as India was struggling at 177-7 when Kuldeep Yadav and Dhruv Jurel stitched a crucial 76-run stand. The duo carried the Men in Blue out of trouble.
Yadav scored 28 in 131 balls while Jurel put up a career-best 90 as India trailed by 46 after their first innings. Building on this momentum, the Indian spinners ran through the English batting lineup with Ravichandran Ashwin picking a five-wicket haul alongside side Yadav's four-fer and Jadeja's singular scalp.
With a 192-run target in the fourth innings, India had a positive start with Sharma and Jasiwal posting 84 before the Rajasthan Royals star got out after scoring 47. Soon the Indian captain also departed after a half-century before Rajat Paitadar's horrid debut series got worse as he got out after a six-ball duck. India lost two more quick wickets but Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel carried India over the finish line with a 72-run stand and helped seal a five-wicket win and the series with a 3-1 margin.
