The England Women's team clinched the three-game T20I series against India after winning the second fixture with a seven-wicket margin. Playing in Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, the Women in Blue lost the toss and were invited to bat first. The Indian team was in early trouble as Charlotte Dean caught Shafali Verma plumb LBW on the second ball of the innings.
The batting issues continued as opener Smriti Mandhana, after scoring two boundaries, was out LBW against a Charlotte Dean delivery. This wicket certainly opened the floodgates, the Women in Blue lost the next three wickets in the space of 17 runs. Number three batter Jemimah Rodrigues held one end up and continued scoring runs with singles and doubles.
Despite Rodrigues' presence in the middle, no other batter could stay on the crease as the collapse continued. England's spinners Sophie Ecclestone, Sarah Glenn and Dean combined to pick up six wickets w hile pacers Lauren Bell, Nat-Sciver Brunt and Freya Kemp picked up the remaining scalps as Team India could only manage 80 runs in 16.2 overs.
In the second innings, the Three Lions got off to a decent start with the openers posting 18 runs before two quick wickets which reduced England to 19-2. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Alice Capsey rescued the innings and took the score to 61 runs.
The Women in Blue, once again, managed to come back into the contest as they made major inroads and held England to 73-6 before Sophie Ecclestone and Heather Knight finished off the game to register a six-wicket win.
