The ODI World Cup is less than a month away, and the hype for the mega event is palpable over the country. After winning the Asia Cup in 2023, former World Cup champion Kapil Dev believes that India is prepared to compete in and win the World Cup. The Indian cricket squad has been working hard to get ready for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.
India clinched their eighth Asia Cup title on Sunday, courtesy of a fiery spell of fast bowling by Mohammed Siraj. Siraj picked up six wickets and dismantled the Sri Lankan lineup to restrict them to an embarrassing total of 50 runs. He ended his spell with 6/21 and in response, the Indian openers chased the target in 6.1 overs.
Reaching the top four would be the first thing India would need to do, according to Kapil Dev, and the rest would be up to luck. India should play with enthusiasm and have fun during the competition, the former skipper told PTI.
At an event in Jammu, Kapil Dev said, “We can't say right now that we are favourites; of course, our team is very good. The heart says something else; the mind says no, we have to work very hard. I know our team; I don't know about other teams, so I would say it is unfair for me to give a blank answer. " He added further, “As far as the India team is concerned, it is ready to play and win the championships. They should play passionately and enjoy themselves."
I ndia will feature in a three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on September 22. The series will act as a final dress rehearsal before the mega event, the World Cup. India will start their World Cup conquest on October 8 against the same opposition in Chennai.
