Indian men’s team lost their Group C top spot after falling to Indonesia in the 2022 Final rematch on May 1, Wednesday in the Thomas Cup 2024. The Indian team featuring stars like HS Prannoy, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, and Lakshya Sen went down to Indonesia 1-3 after Men’s Doubles 2 seeds Dhruv Kapila and Sai Pratheek lost to Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Martihn, 22-20, 21-11, in Chengdu, China.
India have already secured their spot in the quarterfinals after beating England and Thailand in the previous group-stage clashes. However, they lost their top spot in Group C to Indonesia. World number 9 and Indian ace HS Prannoy led the charge against Anthony Ginting and defeated his counterpart 13-21, 21-12, 21-12, to give the side a positive start and take an early lead of 1-0.
Later the world-ranked 3 duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty went down to Mumbai Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Mualana 22-24, 24-22, and 21-19. Things later got worse for the defending champions as Lakshya Sen lost the men’s singles encounter with Jonatan Christie with the scoreline of 18-21, 21-16, 17-21.
It got all over for the 2022 winners as the duo of Kapila and Pratheek lost the fourth round and Indonesia confirmed the top spot.
