With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season coming to its end, the talk around the T20 World Cup 2024 has started to go around. With almost all the teams confirming their squad for the marquee event, set to be played in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA), the excitement around the tournament is coming in shape.
But ahead of the start of the biennial event, reports have surfaced that India will feature in only one warm-up match before they kickstart their campaign at the Cricket World Cup 2024. However, there hasn’t been an official confirmation on the same, but this comes due to the tight scheduling of the IPL calendar.
The 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will culminate on May 26, while India will kickstart their T20 WC campaign from June 5 against Ireland in New York. However, the first group of Team India will depart on May 25, the short turnaround between the two tournament leaves little room and the team has reportedly opted for a solitary match due to logistical reasons.
As quoted by Cricket One, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided that the warm-up game will be held in New York, where the team will be based. A warm-up match in Florida was earlier suggested by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC). But Indian players, who will travel from India after the conclusion of IPL are unwilling to fly from New York to Florida and then return for their opening game in the T20 World Cup 2024.
