Ahead of the first Test match of India’s tour to West Indies, Mumbai batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who received his maiden India call-up, is set to open with Indian captain Rohit Sharma as per reports. With this decision, it is speculated that the regular opener Shubman Gill will be Team India’s new number three and replace veteran Test batter, Chetashwer Pujara. The first Test match will take place at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica.

Coming into this series, the Indian team had a disappointing performance in the World Test Championship Final against Australia as they suffered a massive 209-run defeat. Throughout the WTC Final, the Indian batters failed to put forth consistent performances and hence failed to capitalise on a decent platform created in the second innings. Similarly, the bowlers also had a poor first innings performance which led to a massive Australian score.

These poor performances have pushed the team management to take so big steps regarding the player selections for the West Indies tour and hence names like  Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad,  and more were picked. Similarly, veterans like Pujara and Mohammed Shami were either dropped or rested for the tour.

After the first Test in Dominica, both teams will travel to the iconic Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad for the second Test which is set to start on July 20. After the two-match red-ball series, the limited-overs leg kicks off with three ODIs and five T20Is across venues like  Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad; Providence Stadium, Guyana; and Lauderhill, Florida.
