The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian T20I squad for the three-match series against Afghanistan starting on January 11. The biggest news from the announcement was the return of the captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the T20I squad after a year-long absence, invoking all kinds of reactions from the fans on X.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli last played a T20I match for India during the T20 World Cup in 2022, the semi-final of the competition against England at the Adelaide Oval, ending up on the losing side by a 10-wicket margin. Since then, these two Indian cricketing superstars had skipped every match in the shortest format of the game, shifting their attention solely to the Tests and ODIs.
But now, with just one T20I series remaining for India against Afghanistan before the T20 World Cup 2024 set to commence in the USA and the Caribbean from June 1 onwards, Sharma and Kohli are back in the national setup.
