On the occasion of New year, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hosted cricket teams from both Australia and India on January 1, 2025. Albanese shared a glimpse of the meet on his social media handles where he can be seen posing with players from both teams. Notably, Australia and India are set to lock horns in the fifth and the final Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Sydney Cricket Ground starting on January 3.

During the meet, the players from Australia and India were also seen interacting with each other and sharing light-hearted moments ahead of the series decider in Sydney on Friday. Along with this, Virat Kohli also met Sam Konstas’ brother during the event. Notably, Kohli hit Australia’s debutant Konstas with shoulder during the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, which lead to a heated banter between the two. Kohli also shared a moment with Albanese where the Australian PM showed something to him on the phone as they both shared a smile.

Australia eye on winning BGT after 10 years

The hosts Australia have taken a lead of 2-1 after a massive win in the Boxing Day Test by 184 runs. Despite losing the first Test by 295 runs in Perth. Australia made a great comeback in the Test series and are on the verge of winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years. Now, the Aussies have already prevented India from winning the series and will be looking to win the fifth Test in Sydney or end it in a draw to win the BGT for the first time since 2014-15.

On the other hand, India have lost a chance to win their fifth straight Test series against Australia and third back to back Test series down under. However, the Men in Blue still have a chance to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a win in the fifth Test in Perth.
