The Indian quartet of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi and Rajesh Ramesh etched history as they became the fastest team in Asia to run the 4x400m relay. The Indian men’s team clocked 2-minute 59.05 seconds to finish second and qualify for the finals of the World Athletics Championships 2023.
Additionally, this marked the first time that the Indian men’s team has entered the final of the World Athletics Championships final. They also rewrote the Asian record of 2:59.51s, previously held by Japan. The Japanese team had registered the Asian record last year in Oregon.
Notably, the men’s quartet finished second in their heat, only behind USA (2:58.47). With this, the Indian quartet also shattered the national record of 3:00.25 seconds, set by Muhammed Anas, Noah Nirmal Tom, Arokia Rajiv and Amoj Jacob at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
While USA finished at top followed by India, Great Britain took the automatic qualifying spot with 2:59.42 seconds. While Botswana finished at fourth place, followed by Japan, Czech Republic, Trinidad and Trinbago, Spain and Hungary completing the top nine.
